Last night, the opening night of Allied Craftsmen Today was mobbed, and this contemporary show really stretches the limits of the definition of”craft.” I am honored and thrilled to be exhibited at the Mingei, amongst so many notable colleagues. This is “Corset II,” one of five parts of one piece powerfully and starkly displayed:

Continuing with the Launch of Pure Flight collection, the Diamonds with a Story campaign debuting at LUXURY trade show, Rebecca Foerster is quoted in JCK online article: “Our purpose in this initiative is to provide inspiration to industry,” explains Foerster.

Rio Tinto asked each designer—selected based on their portfolios of work—to submit eight to 12 sketches of finished pieces featuring diamonds from the Argyle or Diavik mines (“Ninety percent are from Argyle,” adds Foerster). Of those, about four pieces were manufactured. “The hope is that retailers will be interested in showcasing these collections in stores, since the designers brought the stories to life, and for others to be inspired to make their own beautiful jewelry based on these themes,” she says.

Mingei’s Community Celebration Weekend + Exhibit

The Mingi’s 35th anniversary, and Community Celebration Weekend corresponds with the opening of Allied Craftsmen Today. Mingei is offering free admission to anyone and everyone who comes into the museum this weekend. If you come on Sunday from 12-4 pm, there will also be art activities and events for our monthly Family Sunday program. A Superb exhibition weekend and time to bring a new member!

The PURE FLIGHT collection is featured as the example of Sustainable Contemporary design in Rio Tinto’s Diamonds with a Story Campaign, featured in this beautifully designed book . In the Diamonds with a Story article, JNA describes the programme as: “The jewellery, designed for the US market by eight world-class North American designers, is part of an innovative marketing programme encompassing consumer research and creative collaborations with designers, manufacturers and retailers, the company said in a press release.”

Fashionable fine diamond jewelry, accessibly priced: A collaboration with Rio Tinto Diamonds, the Pure Flight collection was launched this week at the Luxury booth at JCK (tradeshow). The Argyle mine in Australia, one of the leading diamond mines in terms of responsible practices, produces much of the beautiful natural fancy colored diamonds, including the featured Silvermist Diamonds TM in this collection. The project aims at promoting responsible sourcing practices as it is not only the “right thing to do,” but also increasingly the demand of the current and incoming jewelry consumer. In line with my work in general, this collection was developed as the accessibly priced fine jewelry collection for the young, fashionable jewelry buyer, for whom there are few options in retail jewelry stores. Rio Tinto’s market research and promotional campaign is created to support retailers in serving this NOW demographic with “Diamonds with a Story“
